Competitive Analysis Report: PPT Template

About a week ago, I read a detailed post on the Moz Blog from John Doherty about the research he performs on his competitors. Although, it was super helpful and competitive intelligence is something I’m pretty familiar with, I could help the feeling of “What’s next?”

What do I do with all of this information? Where do I put it all?

Tracking and researching your competitors is just one piece of competitive intelligence. The next pieces are analysis about the different items of data and insights you find. As any good marketer part of a team, you’d want to bring this information to your teammates. However, updating it daily or as you find the information, then communicating it to your team can get, frankly, annoying.

In an effort to avoid updating (or annoying) your team every second your competitor makes a new move, obviously putting these competitive bones…errhm details you dug up on your competitors into an all inclusive reports is the best solution.

We wanted to give you something so you wouldn’t have the frustration of having this lump of competitive data sitting in the dust, so we created a Powerpoint Template to organize these pieces of information in a report to give to your team. This Powerpoint Template compiles all of these pieces of data you got your paws on and showcases it the right way in a analytical report to show to your company to make sure you are taking the necessary competitive advantages.

The first set of slides are the table of contents listing out your competitors and the different channels that your competitors use. From Paid Advertising, SEO, Traffic, Social Media Outlets, Blog + Content, News + Press, and Email Marketing all have a place in this template. We also included places for you to insert screenshots into the slides for different logos, corgi pictures…or whatever your heart desires.

Next, we breakdown each of the slides into the individual channels. Each of the slides with the different channels all have places where you can insert screenshots of your competitors’ actions, their ads, data that corresponds with the channel and tables to show when they have posted on the different outlets.

Although looking at your competitors’ actions are relevant, you can’t just sit and look. The last slides we added include areas to include data, graphs and correlations between the data. Was there a relationship between the number of times your competitor tweeted to their number of followers or did the number of ads increase their traffic? The slides following have a place for all of that.

So then you observed your competitors and showed the data…it’s time to be able to convey the competitive insights. With one of the last slides we included examples of questions that you can answer that may lead you to the competitive actions you need to take. For example, “What are your competitors doing?” or “Where are they the strongest?”
