At TrackMaven, we believe our team should be full of Mavens: people who are absurdly talented and passionate, but also a little bit goofy. We launched TM Talks — a weekly speaker series hosted at TrackMaven HQ — so that our team can learn from innovators and industry leaders who are Mavens in their own right.
Despite the recent snowy weather in Washington, D.C., a few very Mavenly speakers ventured to our offices this February to share their expertise with us. Here are some nibbles and bits from what we learned!
- Alex Oppenheimer and Andrew Schoen from New Enterprise Associates (NEA) spoke to us about software-as-a-service (SaaS) metrics. For our team of Mavens — all of whom happen to work at a pretty fabulous SaaS company :) — this presentation was especially relevant. In fact, NEA financed our own Series B!
NEA’s Alex Oppenheimer explained the essential metrics that SaaS leaders track to understand and grow their business.
As a data-driven company, we loved learning how all of the metrics we track and optimize every day come together to drive the long-term success of the company.
- Jackie Titus and Joel Daly, hosts of Creative Mornings DC and partners at Artemis Ward, shared the story of how they brought Creative Mornings — a coordinated, global breakfast lecture series for the creative community — to the oh-so-political world of Washington, D.C. The duo shared the lessons they’ve learned along the way (sometimes the hard way!), as well as their plans for bringing greater visibility to D.C.’s creative side.
Joel Daly and Jackie Titus shared lessons from their quest to cultivate the creative community here in Washington, D.C.
I particularly loved this presentation (fan girl moment!) and could have picked their brains for hours about how they select each month’s speaker and bring a unique touch to each event.
- And last but not least, our VP of Engineering, Fletcher Heisler, took an interactive approach to his TM Talk by leading us all in a salsa lesson! We learned the basic salsa step, a simple right turn, a simple left turn, and then put it all to music.
Our Mavens took their salsa cues from Fletcher Heisler, our VP of Engineering aka VP of Salsa!
Our dancing paws picked it up faster than I expected! We had so much fun that we may take our moves to the next level with Salsa Dancing 2.0 later this year.
