Throwback Thursday has become a social medial mainstay. But despite an origin dated as early as 2003, it wasn’t until 2012 that the trend truly exploded, shortly after the introduction of hashtags on Instagram. By July 2012, #TBT was already the 15th most popular hashtag on Instagram with 9.1M photos.
The #ThrowbackThursday trend has become so ubiquitous to our cultural lexicon that Time published a profile of the most-liked #TBT’s from 2014. The list was a veritable who’s-who of celebrity personalities, including Kim Kardashian, Ellen DeGeneres, Beyonce, and even Joe Biden. (SPOILER ALERT: Justin Bieber‘s #TBT took the top spot with this Instagram of fatherly love.)
But the #ThrowbackThursday trend isn’t for celebrities alone. Many brands have successfully learned how to use #ThrowbackThursday in their social media strategies. We used our competitive intelligence platform to identify some of the most impactful and most creative #TBT’s from the brands in our database. A few might inspire you!
