LinkedIn

LinkedIn was found by Reid Hoffman, Allen Blue, Konstantin Guericke, Eric Ly, and Jean-Luc Vallienat in December 2002. LinkedIn then launched the following year on May 5, 2003. On May 19, 2011, LinkedIn traded it’s first public shares at $45 per share.

Linkedin is the world’s largest professional network with over 259 million members and is available in 21 languages such as, English, Czech, Danish, Dutch, French, German, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Malay, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Spanish, Swedish, Tagalog, Thai, and Turkish. 66% percent of LinkedIn members are outside of the United States.

It is a social media platform mainly used for professional networking where users can connect with professional contacts, post their work experience and resumes, discuss topics in their respective fields, write recommendations, and endorse fellow connections for relevant skills.

Like Facebook, Twitter, and Youtube, LinkedIn has an advertising platform as well. An advertiser can advertise on LinkedIn with formats such as, text, image, video ads or sponsored updates. With LinkedIn Ads, an advertiser can target by job title and function, industry and company size, or by seniority.
