Unique Visitor

Unique visitors are individuals who are visiting a website for the first time within a predetermined time period. Multiple visits by an individual within that predetermined time period will result in only one registered unique visitor. However, if an individual returns to your website after the current timeframe has ended and a new one has begun, then they will be counted as a new unique visitor.

Why does TrackMaven think that a Unique Visitor is important?

Unique visitors are an important metric because a high amount of unique visitors can indicate that a marketer’s advertisements are reaching a large audience of consumers. Ads that direct a lot of unique visitors to a website are most likely optimized to interest consumers enough to visit that website. It is imperative for company’s to differentiate between unique visitors and repeat visitors. Although unique visitors are good in the sense that advertisements are reaching new consumers, the goal should be to turn the uniques into repeat visitors. People rarely make a purchase the first time they visit a website. Purchases usually occur after multiple visits to a site. Therefore, a high number of unique visitors can actually be a bad indication if it is coupled with a low number of repeat visitors. This could mean that there is something wrong with a company’s website that discourages visitors from returning.
